Sanctuary
Young and intrepid in Malaysia Erica followed the guidebook to travel out to the caves. The coincidental festival would add to the interest. The scorching sun beat down on the festivities and participants worked themselves into a trance state. Erica was swept up in the tide of humanity climbing up to the caves with their garish Hindu statues and artwork. The festival goers worked up into a frenzy and pierced themselves with skewers and hooks pulling unbelievable loads.
Erica turned to flee She couldn’t go forward but going back was against the flow of hypnotised entranced revellers. She pushed and squeezed down the steps to the first bus back to town and sought the hallowed golden arches and an ice cream sundae in McDonalds, Kuala Lumpur.
